Living in Wellness at Chan Kum Leong Club
The Chan Kum Leong (CKL) Club is a refreshing hive of relaxing, multi-intentional activities, offering opportunities for continuous learning, talent discovery, cultivating hobbies and naturalised therapy in a safe and nurturing space and community. The Club is a dedicated space for wellness and mindfulness living, focusing on the arts, music and movement integrated within and throughout.
A Club for Them, by Them
More importantly, in reframing dementia, the Club aims to serve persons with dementia (PWDs) and persons with mild cognitive impairment (PMCIs) as they are the main form of social resource in the Club. Be it housekeeping duties, baking and coffee-making in our café or co-facilitating wellness programmes, PWDs and PMCIs take centre stage and continue to contribute in their unique ways. In the Club, there are six unique categories of activities designed to cater to the aspirations and interests of many PWDs.
Masak Masak Club
The Masak Masak Club features our Café, serving freshly-baked artisanal and traditional snacks by PWDs. Freshly-brewed connoisseur coffee is also available daily, made and served by PWDs with prior culinary skills or those who aspire to acquire new skills in various cuisines. PWDs are engaged in a range of rich tasks, with different tasks assigned to provide the right challenge for each stage of dementia. The Café is also our commitment to pursuing hospitality pursuits in long-term residential care.
The Mindful Masterstroke
For the artists at heart, we tap on the potential and power of the arts and music to lift hearts, bring joy, meaning and cultivate connections for PWDs and PMCIs. For the arts, activities within the Mindful Masterstroke unit, including Tangle Art, Pastel Nagomi Art and Art Open Studio, are curated to suit the different profiles with various cognitive and sensory needs.
The Golden Symphony Club
Music activities in our Golden Symphony unit also taps on the intact creative brains of PWDs and PMCIs through singing, learning instruments and listening to personalized playlists and soundscapes. Music has proven to provide multi-prong benefits – it is a unique form of communication for PWDs and PMCIs, and is easily integrated into all daily activities, while also enhancing the physical and social environment. These are naturalised opportunities for them to practice mindfulness, learn new skills, express creativity, reminisce and provide meaningful dyadic engagement for caregivers and their loved ones.
Fun and Fit
Fun and movement are integral in building physical and emotional well-being. Therefore, our Fun and Fit activities are designed to provide fresh experiences while naturalizing rehabilitation. All Stars League, Zumba, Taichi, Chair Yoga and Silent Disco are some of the activities offered to PWDs and PMCIs in the Club to experience wellness, fun, and build long-lasting friendships in a safe and nurturing space. Activities are welcome to all – inclusive and accessible for the ambulatory and those on wheelchair.
Golden Harvest
For those with green fingers, Golden Harvest will provide opportunities for meaning contributions. PWDs are involved in taking care of and propagating organic herbs grown in our edible garden. Once the herbs are planted in individually painted pots, they are put up for sale, providing PWDs a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
Glistening Green
Glistening Green features nature-inspired engagements, such as our signature programme, Mindful Immersive Nature Therapy (MINT). MINT is a structured wellness programme, encouraging interactions with nature through exploration of the five senses and consistently connecting with the nature space and people around them. It has proven to improve mood and engagement among PWDs and enhance social relationships between PWDs and their caregivers.
Intergenerational Bonding Programme
Undergirding all the Club activities is our unique intergenerational bonding programme between children from our partner preschools and the PWDs and PMCIs. Through intentional mindfulness, cross-cultural interactions and natural relationship building, we discover new potentials unleashed in both generations as we bring the outside in, and the inside out.
The CKL Club, built to serve residents and persons living with dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), offers flexible, resort-style activities such as cooking, baking, and music lessons. Caregivers can also participate, make precious memories and find mental respite through continuous learning and talent discovery opportunities
