Singapore Gardens Festival 2018 Outing

On 2nd August 2018, a group of 17 residents and day care elderly were invited to the Singapore Gardens Festival at Gardens by the Bay. With the support of our new volunteers and staff, the elderly enjoyed themselves viewing the beautiful orchids and flowers on display.

As persons with dementia, visiting the Singapore Gardens Festival proved to be a cognitively stimulating experience, as they were enchanted by the colourful medley of flowers, and interact socially with their peers and volunteers. We visited the Learning Garden exhibition which was nicely done up with large bee and flower sculptures, teaching us about pollination of flowers and fruit development.

We also visited the Therapeutic Garden, and we saw fresh herbs such as Thai basil, mint, laksa leaves being grown. We were able to touch and also smell the exciting aromas of each herb.

Apex Harmony Lodge is very thankful for NParks who had sponsored our visit to the Singapore Gardens Festival, and we look forward to future opportunities for such horticulture therapy.
